Mission statement & note of intent

With the characters, story and landscapes of RYYKER LOOR we simply want to produce a great 3D animation adventure for the whole family. Inspired by local Norwegian and Irish legends and personal experiences of the writers, we created a film idea, which should bring back the great momentum of feature fairy tale & animation films which we watched and loved in our childhood. But our overall intention is also to generate a modern update of ways to invent and tell fairy tales today by putting into account that children and teenagers face a much more complicated world than we did 25 years ago. A world of high tech cities and remote holiday sites. A world of ultra high-speed communication and cruel agony when there is no one to talk to, when cords are cut or have never been properly built.

In that respect we want to show, that even a twelve year old girl is able or sometimes has to take her life in her own hands in order to change the things she cares about to better. And that she also sometimes has to break with conventions and rules of logic and ethnical barriers to turn things upside down to create a future plan, a vision for her life.

But on the same page we want to tell the audience as well that there is a great danger to all of this if you head out for the extremes. There is a fine line between those “ideal places” or self-made societies that has to be discovered in the first place and respected, acknowleged in the process. There simply is no perfect world. Be it beautiful but cold or hot, emotional but pure anarchy or hedonism like our heroes experience.

Nele and Törgard will encounter and eventually learn a lot of this during their journey and we will take the audience with them. And in the end they might become the self sustaining responsible young woman and man, taking care of their and others life’s in the best way. But for now they have to master this adventure of life which is by all means, be it full of trolls and elves or not, a very complex and difficult one. They have to open up and tell each other all their stories, memories and visions. And then a dream may become true.

The audience might follow that example.

History, status and progress

In Berlin three years ago, in September 2003, Nina Wels, Derek Meister and Sven Bergmann started with the idea of creating the story elements and characters of RYYKER LOOR in order to produce a 3D animation film with minature model sets and backgrounds.

Derek had to leave the project for other Film and TV screenplays and  to write a novel. In the meantime Nina and Sven
worked together on several 3D animation film projects. Parallel to this they developed the characters and plot even further and built a partnership with the goal of starting an indenpendent animation studio in Berlin to produce the film.

In Summer 2006 Friederike Pfann joined their adventure as a co-writer. Andreas Rohde came on board the troll boat in October '06 as concept & character design artist.

Today and for the next couple of months detailed script & character design work lies ahead of them and so does the glorious way of funding this project to build the trolls of Ryyker Loor a better home.

National and European co-producers, animation studios and artists are welcome to talk to FRAU WONG TRICKFILME and tauben.ecke.koch office | Berlin about booking an interesting and marvellous trip to the mysterious island of Ryyker Loor.
